The VII year of the Cybersecurity Hall of Fame was traditionally held under the auspices of the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mr. Miloš Vystrčil, and for the year 2024 the following were inducted
VÁCLAV Žid
Brigadier General Václav Žid is the Deputy Director of Military Intelligence and Director of its Technical Section. He has spent most of his career working for the state and its security forces. His areas of expertise are information technology, information security and strategic management.
He graduated in Technical Cybernetics from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University and gained further experience abroad while studying at the National Defense University in the USA.
He significantly participated in the preparation of Act No. 150/2021 Coll., amending Act No. 289/2005 Coll., on Military Intelligence, as amended, and some other legislation. This Act defines the contribution of the Military Intelligence to the defence of the Czech Republic in cyberspace. The law imposes three basic cyber defence activities on the Military Intelligence - detection of all cyber attacks originating abroad, analysis of all such attacks, threats and impacts, and implementation of measures to counter detected cyber attacks. Building these new skills, General Žid has successfully undertaken and co-created the National Cyber Operations Center, which is responsible for executing these activities.
Recently, for example, we have seen a team from the National Cyber Operations Center participate in the coordinated response, code-named Dying Ember, against attacks by the APT28 group on significant targets in the Czech Republic and abroad, including our NATO allies and Ukraine.
Mr. Žid, among other things, supports the science, research and innovation program, advocating for the introduction of new technologies to support the achievement of the organization's goals. He has also been instrumental in the Czech Republic's chairmanship of the NATO Military Intelligence Committee.
Due to the character of the General's work, it is impossible to list here all his achievements in building a safer cyber environment in the Czech Republic. We are sure that his introduction into the Cybersecurity Hall of Fame is a logical appreciation of his contribution to the security of cyberspace in the Czech Republic.
