Leveraging Generative AI in OSINT, STRATCOM, and PSYOPS: Opportunities and Threats
This presentation aims to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the fields of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), Strategic Communications (STRATCOM), and Psychological Operations (PSYOPS). As an experienced practitioner in these domains, I will dissect both the perils and potentials of generative AI technologies, offering insights into their practical applications.
The talk will commence with a concise retrospective on the recent advancements in AI, underscoring the technology's proliferation, accessibility, and existing barriers to adoption. This sets the stage for a detailed exploration of the threat model associated with generative AI.
Key threats include the automated generation of disinformation and deepfakes, and the deployment of sophisticated autonomous bot networks. These threats will be examined from the distinct perspectives of private and state actors, acknowledging their varied objectives and limitations.
The presentation will conclude with a forward-looking perspective, contemplating future developments in generative AI and their implications for the fields of intelligence and strategic communication.
